Sigma Connectivity and Imagimob partners in development of tinyML applications

Stockholm, April 7, 2021. Imagimob and Sigma Connectivity partners in development of tinyML applications. Sigma Connectivity has been trained and certified on Imagimob AI, and used it in a project in the sports sector. The partnership means that Sigma Connectivity now can take on tinyML customer projects using the Imagimob AI development platform.

Instead of running complex machine learning (ML) models in the cloud, on large, power-hungry computers, this new approach, tinyML, involves running optimized models for inference in endpoint devices, on microcontrollers no bigger than a grain of rice consuming only milliwatts of power.

The potential use cases of tinyML are almost unlimited. Developers all over the world are already working with tinyML to explore all sorts of new ideas: responsive traffic lights that change signaling to reduce congestion, industrial machines that can predict when they’ll need service, fall detection for the elderly, in-store shelves that can request restocking when inventory gets low. The list goes on.

Imagimob AI SaaS is a generic end-to-end development platform for tinyML applications that supports technology for deep learning and all types of time series data. But Imagimob has chosen to delve into different vertical solutions, and the strategy is to become a world leader in each chosen vertical.

One such vertical solution is gesture control, which in conjunction with the corona pandemic is a very interesting technology for combating the spread of infection through touchless interfaces. In collaboration with the radar sensor company Acconeer and the ODM supplier OSM Group, Imagimob has developed gesture-controlled in-ear headphones, which were introduced at Embedded World 2021 in early March. Instead of managing the headphones from the smartphone, it is enough to bring your finger up to your ear and make one of four possible, learned gestures.

This gesture technology is of course not only limited to headphones, but is applicable to many different types of electronic devices. It’s very useful wherever gesture control and non-contact user interfaces can facilitate and optimize the use of products and systems, for example in healthcare, in the automotive industry and in manufacturing.

Another area that is generating a lot of interest is the area of different types of audio applications. Many customers are looking for solutions that can recognize speech or different types of sound. For example, it can be used to recognize different sounds in an urban environment or high frequency sounds in an industrial environment.

Artur Koblinsky at Sigma Connnectivity leads the activities related to Imagimob AI in Sigma Connectivity and he says: “We were trained for 2 hours by Imagimob, and then we were up and running. Imagimob AI is very easy to use and our engineers could quickly learn how to collect data, build deep learning models, evaluate models to find the best model and then finally to generate the application for the edge device”.
